The Challenges and Heartseases as a Senior Care Giver

Being a senior caregiver is & isn't what you think.
No matter how you prepare yourself for it. It's not going to go as expected.  So cheer up and expect the unexpected.

For example, in my case, my parents had a medical set back.  I had literally six days to pack up a house and move to another state. Luckily it only took 4 days to sell my house.  Also on the bright side my employer showed exemplary empathy and help to transition my home office to a new state in less than two weeks. Plus they staggered my breaks so that I could meet my parents needs.

That is just outstanding - but you'll be surprised at how many companies will do just that for you.

Number one thing, see if your company has an employee assistance program most do in the United States and talk to the social worker about whats going on and they will fill you in on what you need and next steps for bringing them home from the hospital. Gem 💎 of a benefit they will immediately transport you from reactive to proactive.

The next big thing is finding appropriate doctors, it's astounding how many doctors do not even look at their patients or treat seniors like they're 5 years old. Seniors are not mentally impaired they're just a little slower at doing some things. Finding physicians who will take your ques as a caregiver, but concentrate on their patients is a monumental task but totally worth the extra time especially with the primary care and specialists so yeah everybody.

But believe me its worth every moment - there will be wacky days, that just make you smile 😁.

So far being on a schedule where they get out daily whether they go to the senior center for lunch to socialize, walk in the park or simply out to lunch at a new restaurant you'll be amazed at the story's they have to share. You'll also be surprised at the memories different places invoke.

How they met? The Y dance, at a restaurant they were both working at. My mom made the move. She walked right up to my father and asked him if he knew the y dance? He didn't. She put her arms around his neck and put his arms around her waist and slyly I imagine looked into his eyes and said why dance? #meetcutemoment
I was definitely one of the lucky ones, my dad was a teacher & chef, my mom was a teachers aid, they accepted all of our friends in their home, I grew up with 13 Foster brothers and sisters. They taught us empathy at a young age.

So why drop almost everything and move home? Y not 😘 & because they didn't want to leave the home they built.

The Broken Mirror Argument

Broken Mirrors - Are You in For 7 years of Bad Luck?  Or is the secret in the details?

Superstitions - it is believing in things that cannot logically be explained.  Mirrors are the source of science, intrigue and myths so dig a little deeper.

If you think about it - it's a choice bad luck or good luck it's subjective.

Reflective surfaces date back to 4,000 BC some of the earliest forms found in turkey; and probably the beginning of time, because people can also see their reflection in the water, ice, finely polished stones or crystals.

It's also believed that the earliest glass object was created around 3500 BC in Egypt an important element coming up.  Mirrors were also found in the New Kingdom of Egypt, Eighteenth Dynasty, 1540–1296 BC

                                                 Pic. By https://clevelandart.org/art/1983.196, CC0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=77264790

A mirror today in 2022 is a glass surface backed by silvering.  Justus Von Leibig didn't invent the process until 1835. He was a scientist, they believed that the scientific inquiry is a method and form of knowledge Superior to all others that allows us to understand the world. Mirrors are used in optical and scientific apparatuses such as telescopes, lasers, cameras, periscopes, and industrial machinery; they are also used in magic. The terms mirror and reflector are for objects that reflect any other types of waves, consequently if you break a mirror you're breaking a wave.

Accordingly, the thought of breaking a mirror today and running into 7 years of bad luck isn't plausible. I think JVL might agree.

Looking back a little more,  It appears it was the ancient Romans who first suggested the idea of a broken mirror bringing 7 years bad luck - in line with the belief that the body renewed itself every seven years. That was in or around 753 bc and at that time the mirrors were crudely made of metal, bronze, tin, or silver highly polished.  Seems like they be harder to break.

Later blown glass with lead backings, and then highly polished bronze or silver backings was  used to make mirrors. In ancient times they would have been made by highly skilled artisans. One would have to consider that any artist would say you're going to have or wish you bad luck if you ruin their work even accidentally.

What are Mirrors? They simply reflect - like a picture they capture a brief moment in time - unlike a picture - as soon as you walk away it disappears.

So if mirrors are made of glass and glass is made out of sand and sand is also an ingredient in clay - the basic material to consider next is dirt.

If we were talking to a Shaman dirt is a sign of coming through the odds. "(The earliest known undisputed burial of a shaman (and by extension the earliest undisputed evidence of shamans and shamanic practices) dates back to the early Upper Paleolithic era (c. 30,000 BP) in what is now the Czech Republic.)"  Dirt as bearer of bad luck?  Seriously, dirt its everywhere it holds water and vital nutrients to grow things and it is the foundation that we build upon. Embrace the positive.  Dirt isn't vile your perspective might be.

Dig a little deeper and Kintsugi dating back to the 15th century is the golden repair. It treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object rather than something to disguise.  A mirror never disguises - so if you simply crack it or even shatter it. It's just a reminder that life is fragile - look at the big picture, track the positives after the event, clean it up or save it to create something.  Embrace the change coming and do not get attached to inanimate objects it's an accident - fate - without a doubt beyond your control.

We're all flawed with imperfections maybe the broken mirror is a reminder to go after something that's actually fixable.  Think about how many mirrors/reflective pieces were broken for the last 4,000 years to make mosaic art that may have originated in Mesopotamia. That's the third millennium BC. We've come a long way from those times; bad luck didn't win.

A broken mirror can realistically simply be a reminder to pick up the pieces and start over, embrace your perceived flaws or imperfections and that age old adage waste not -want not.

"Observation is like a piece of glass, which, as a mirror, must be very smooth, and must be very carefully polished, in order that it may reflect the image pure and undistorted." — Justus von Liebig

The Thing About Authors

Authors are mirabile dictu; they can bring us through every emotion while introducing us to new landscapes -places we've never been and make us yearn to visit. Further into those places we'll never see ... because it often only exists in their imagination.  It's the landscape of changing perspectives and critical thinking that makes it an intriguing adventure.

They have this ability to introduce us to a variety of people from the dregs of society to the edges of the universe. They break our hearts and make them rejoice with the empathy in human kindness; while subtly challenging our perspective. They keep us company in the darkest hours of the morning's dawn.

Feeling lucky to have met so many and delve a little deeper into how they deliver some of the very best stories!

Emsella by BTL Review

Staying in Shape & Away from Surgical Procedures in the early 2000's was a monumental task, seemed like one was always recommended. Trying less invasive procedures like #BTL #Emsella 2020 required a little trust, less $$$, and incredibly outstanding results!

Staying in Shape & Away from Surgical Procedures in 2021 literally #effortless

Emsella - wow 6 sessions it's like doing kegel exercises. Approximately, 30 minutes & relaxing - bring a book to read.

Benefits:
It's a treatment for incontinence & definitely helps without surgery which doesn't always work.

Extra Perks: It tightens the vulva (part of your genitals on the outside of your body) & labia, (the folds of skin around your vaginal opening) which can loosen up after pregnancy, as you age and when you lose weight. I have to admit this part was surprising, because you're going to have an incredibly noticeable difference between the mons pubis (the fleshy mound above your vulva) and thru to the lower part of your bum.

Inside and out: you'll find that your skin is tighter in that area - you can wear a bathing suit bottom with confidence and you'll find you can hold it a lot longer.

I was skeptical, but I have to say if you try it you'll be seriously impressed.

Emsculpt Does It Work On The Average Woman? - Review

This is the absolute worst picture I ever posted of myself.  Clothing hides a lot.

January 2020

The pictures that advertise Emsculpt seem deceptive; but are probably true for the 20 something model.  But does it work on us, the girls aged 30,40, 50 +, after we've  had a baby, broke a bone or two, when something that came up limited our workouts, Covid19 lock downs; any and all of those things that get in the way.  Well, things start to sag a bit faster than you think.

No excuses, the above picture is true and I left my face unlike the others you may find on line. Because on those only showing the core -my first thought was "sure" further squinting and questioning is it the same body??

So of course, I had to try it.  I met with Dr. Peggy Gregory above.  She is one of the best in this field. At my first visit, she explained everything and listened to my concerns. Dr. Gregory has been an OBGYN for over twenty years.

So how did it go?  The procedure is truly pain free. It can feel awkward at times and it seems it's less painful when you're not in your best shape. Dr. Gregory said men received the best results while both men and women with well-developed abs could not tolerate the highest level. I thought maybe I was just too overweight or out of shape to get any benefits. Still in that 20 pound range for my target weight I wanted to try it!

Happy to report I wasn't too anything. The answer is YES, it works. Right after the procedure I literally felt lighter, taller and had less lower back pain in fact none. It helped me stick to my workout routine and strengthened my core almost immediately.  I walked out like literally wow! But results ....that no pain - no gain kept ringing in the back of mind and it wasn't until two days later that I felt some tightening like I had seriously worked out my abs. So I took a picture. If you want to see the results click on!

YES!!! This is literally two days after; I checked the dates on the pictures 3 times.

(Disclosure on the picture on the right I put a black line simply to cover my bra.)

I have to say I am shocked each time I pass a mirror. Moreover, my core strength is increasing after each workout. Planks, stomach crunches on the circuit series ab machine and other ab machines and exercises at the gym and then largely at home (gyms closed) are soooo much easier.  At home during quarantine I am happy to report without much dieting, I have been able to maintain and increase my strength and lost 18 lbs in 3 months. Luckily got in two Vanquish Me Treatments before the shut down. Which is absolutely crazy!

When you check prices you'll find them to be anywhere from $3,000 to $3,500 MSRP for 4 sessions over a two week period.   The secret price at this place is so Fairy Tale Access-ible ....  it's not advertised and also the reason I jumped into trying it.

I can say that if you say you want Fairy Tale Access & if you were to take a two week or less vacation in NH stay at a Bed and Breakfast, Hotel, or Airbnb do some sightseeing and tax-free shopping in the same area this providers price would allow you to still have the money left to do it.  Or you can plan on using that 2,000-2500 you save to try some of the other services that this provider does.  Kudos great customer service and reasonable prices!  For a little more than the MSRP for just Emsulpt, I went in for the package deal an Ageless Makeover ... Works on abdominal muscles, adipose tissue and skin to help regain abdominal tone, decrease circumference and tighten.  It also included treatment for pelvic floor muscles - which stretch during pregnancy and delivery. I'm on my way to complete  4 Vanquish ME,   Emsella 6, Exilis 6, Cellutone 6, the Emsulpt 4, completed.

And then  almost 3 months later ... with only 2 Vanquish and 1 Exilis

To further smooth the skin and decrease fat; I'm trying the BTL Exilis Ultra Treatments for 4 weeks; with optimal results that can take up to 3 months. It's a bit of a wait but so far the results have been extraordinary.

I've cut down on any fake foods, trying to stay healthy with natural food choices less meat, exercising, yoga, planks, light weights, and walking 2-5 miles a day depending on the weather. Yoga online with MariaCLaporte@gmail.com She doesn't do a website. But she is honestly another great resource for staying ageless.

All in  it's all, without a doubt it's worth it; especially the package prices at the Ageless Medical Spa.  Lost 18 pounds since I started at the end of January. Back into my 6/8's and feeling great.  I will be ready to tackle the Sahara Desert & all the mystery once we're allowed to travel.

Vivace Microneedling vs. Lasers

Vivace Microneedling  everything you need to know is in that link. However, what you won't find is the experience so here's mine:

A lot!  Let's talk Vivace Micro-needling.  So you see a physician, nurse, doctor of something and they tell you - no there are no pin marks or bumps after Vivace.  They lied, there can be bumps, pin pricks which can take a couple of days to disappear and your skin feels drier than when you went in and it's splotchy for about a week.    The major redness does dissipate by the next day. No major tightening on the first treatment.  However, the bumps & dryness took almost 4 weeks to clear up.  I'm sorry but for the price $700 per session: I want the truth before indulging. They run around 600-1100 per session in different areas in the U.S.

They recommend 3 applications and it's priced a lot cheaper by the package which is not cheap it works out to the $700.

Session One:  Applied up and down but not across. Minimal improvement but they say it's about 3 months after. NO tightness after - as relayed by youtube reviewers; major redness dissipated in a few hours. But there were little dots in some places and dry patches that took almost 4 weeks to clear up.

Session Two: Applied up and down on face; but not across.  Up and down and across on neck so why aren't you doing that on the face? Nurse: I don't feel it needs it. (To be fair it felt like she did it much tighter) and when leaving the tightness in most areas could be felt; but this time no redness! Okay not going to argue with the technician who wasn't as friendly as the first visit.

Went directly to office manager and explained that I want the physician to do next one. Due to the tech's technique and that it is not the criss-cross pattern the way other's said it would be done. She said well she is the specialist. I said but the physician trained her.   This is where I get assertive. I said, Look I'm not impressed with the results of the first visit or this one and I don't believe I am getting the full benefits for what I am paying for.  I want the physician on the last one period! (even tone though)  She said well it takes 3 month's to see the full results. I said I understand that and I won't leave a review until that 3 month period is up; but I want the physician because their should be superficial results after the first visit (confirmed below with makers of machine).  She said she'd look into and get back to me.

Waiting ....she never got back so I sent an email about a week later that I wanted a copy of their certificate of training.  Ended up getting a full refund.  Because I also included that I called the makers of Vivace Aesthetics Biodmedical the creators/sellers of Vivace 800-726-5029.  They explained their training is one day - the procedure should include 2-3 passes over the area being treated. There are also customizable levels for energy levels, depth of needle, amount of time needles in skin, radio frequency etc.  So hardly confident in their ability to do this correctly.

This is how it should be applied!

Moving on to lasers huge difference.  Redness takes a good 24 hours to dissipate whether its, Fraxel or something like the Picco laser or Cynosure.  The difference is in the technician. If they are not experienced the Fraxel can leave you with scars, blistering and very dry patches that can take 6 months to a year or more to dissipate. The do no harm physicians - fail to disclose this.

They also fail to disclose that all of the above can cause hives which is more common with people I spoke with than you'd think. So keep some allergy tabs close by and call a doctor if it happens to you.  Typically it goes away in 3-4 days but you may need something stronger & only available by prescription. Think itchy welts and hard to breath.

They probably all can cause these issues.  But Fraxel can have bad side affects with inexperienced techs.  Picosure laser is very good if your  technician is not practicing on you and covers all areas of your skin. These are the results with a year between pictures totally worth it.  Would have stayed there if her Fraxel training did not burn my skin and then try to have her even less experienced staff do work me.  Thank the beauty gods she didn't do it to my face. This is why you need to leave review's on google or wherever! We have to watch out for each other.

Here's the truth from a trusted source - the training physicians are getting on these lasers is .... ready.... one day.  So if the physician has never used lasers or injected regularly they are the problem in this field and it's a nightmare - way more providers are doing this than should be with minimal training. Be wary ask a lot of questions and if you don't feel comfortable leave! No matter how much you want to get it done leave!!

See you soon, feel free to leave a comment about your experience even better leave that review online. What worked great for you?

Quest Seekers Know ...

We're the ones who can't travel at the moment; but without hesitation continue the quest and spy the hidden beauty surrounding us.

We're battling dragons when we step out and run into mask-less beings.

We're finding new landscapes, dreams and characters in the figment of Authors imaginations and those writers who can still give us just the facts; to unravel and discern.

We're still dreamers, but the impossible in fantasy and the what, where and how of non-fiction and history; begs us to acknowledge the why and be better going forward.

We've seen magic and shared our own at all the right moments.  When we were lost and received directions - from the person hurrying on their way.  When we stopped and acted to help another simply because without thought it was the right thing to do at the right moment in time.

We're the ones who know Freedom is a treasure that needs safe guarding - without the threat to even one life.

We know the quest is an important journey filled with the authority of reason and conscience of the individual. There's no conflict between faith and knowledge or the worth and dignity of a single human life.

We're the one's who've known hurdles and overcame them and know they'll be more.

We've found the secrets to our own unraveling Fairy Tale Access; and encouraged others to share theirs through the art of listening and asking more questions.

We unequivocally know the human spirit is infinite in it's possibilities and it's the unity of experience that evokes tolerance and understanding.

We know the end of the quest should be filled with good works, a completion of social and community involvement in the never-ending search for Truth.

It's all sourced in the same reality.... keep asking questions.  See You Soon,  Love Denise-Marie

Beauty Industry Secrets, Issues & The Non-Disclosed

Background Paralegal/Analyst/TV Host:  Love Travel & Research. The things I cover are happening in real-time and in 2020 I was going to try to do 1 or 2 posts a month or more about Travel, Issues, Beauty Secrets & Dispel Myths, Misconceptions and expose bad guys.  In this blog I typically will not name the bad guys; but I might hyperlink the issue so you can see who the bad guys are.  The good Guys they get named, linked and maybe even a TV interview.

Travel Is On Hold for the Majority: But remember everything has a cycle and this one will end. Save up, dream and plan for that next big adventure!

Beauty Buzz - Everyone is doing something and they have great before and after pictures; but what's the buzz with Micro-needling, Laser Facials, Fillers, Botox, Emsculpt and the average woman? You, know "us" we work out, sometimes we let it go - because life gets in the way.   I will let you know on the claims of the above  after I finish trying a copy of more.  This is the in general "you've got to be kidding me page" capping 5 years of research.

The Things To Be Aware Of!! Ask more questions.

1.  The Industry is not regulated. There are no standards for how long someone should be trained meaning more often than not your the guinea pig.

2. Training for lasers, micro-needling, Botox and fillers is one day!  Just one day.  Granted nurses and doctors use needles a lot - shots, vaccines, drawing blood. But do they understand how the muscles they are injecting into your face or neck work? You'll find when you press for answers they sadly and most concernedly do not.  I found 3 in 5 years who do and that was after interviewing over  20 potential candidates that didn't. Luckily, I found Dr. Peggy Gregory and I have to say she truly is exceptional with injections and using and describing other procedures. So I will be there a bunch to work on achieving my personal best!

3. Surgeons even plastic surgeons, men especially seemed to have a god complex.  There was one who actually overdosed my forehead with Botox and while I got a refund it was extremely uncomfortable for months like 10. In the picture below you can see how my brows dip near the bridge of my nose and create a heaviness across the lid; it's like you want to tape your eyebrows up and in fact you probably will to relieve the tension.

4. Another nurse where I just wanted smooth even textured skin on the arms for sun damage - used the Fraxel laser and I ended up with burns and skin discoloration. She said she had intense training.  However, it was one day!  So get the consultation demand answers so you avoid these types of disappointments.  File the complaint with the nursing association in your state for misrepresentation and failure to follow up when they don't return calls.

Also, with Botox, Xeomin or Dysport when they say they charge per area - that's a red flag.  Seriously the industry is by unit why pay more - when you probably won't need it.

Other things to aware of: billing.  Seriously how many times have you bought anything and the receipt does NOT STATE WHAT YOU bought? Granted some of you will want that.

But, you can't dispute the charges with your credit card company when things go wrong you have to go the consumer protection bureau, better business bureau (which lets face it  - is useless)  and the board governing their practices in your state.

So be wary. Since we can't travel right now - work on getting your strength up and being the best "you" so that next adventure is one of your best ever.  Right now,  I'm working with Ageless Medical Spa in NH to do just that! Dr. Gregory is the consummate professional everything we're looking for. Experience with the products using. Able to deter us from going overboard, reasonable rates and she truly listens. If she can't help she's honest and makes recommendations to others. Maybe it's because she was an Obgyn for years; but she's someone whose able to understand and respond to her patients issues and needs.

I tried Emsculpt there and I'm so impressed! Since I'm more likely than not essentially tied to the states for a while. I am trying Emsulpt, Vanquish and Exilis Ultra 360 for building muscle and targeting fat. (Also, gym time is currently restricted due to closings).   I am frankly shocked at how well it's going! These are my results after one Emsculpt treatment.  I am so excited I'm adding the others, keeping up at the gym, by walking and exercising at home and eating healthy. Its getting me the results I want. I'll share more as I go through them.

And while I am sad I may not be able to freely travel aboard until hopefully sooner than later.  I am planning the next adventure in Algeria for October 2022 specifically to Tassili n'Aljjer  aka in the Sahara Desert in Algeria; where I would have love to have to been in April 2020!  But even if it takes a little more time... it's out there and it's something to look forward to.

1st Impressions, Memories & Tips for Your Algerian Adventure

It's been a while since I wrote, getting back into the groove of everyday life carries us away sometimes. I'm excited to share some of the 2018 adventure with you.

Worldwide Experiences have the ability to surprise & challenge us to accept reality - first hand.
Why travel to far off destinations? To Experience the not so usual . . . and
moments that unravel from chaos into an - oh so Fairy Tale Accessible Destination

Constantine, Algeria
March 2018
A Country of 4 Seasons filled with Remarkable People

Algerians, are some of the warmest people in the world. They will welcome you into their homes with open arms and inquisitive, kind questions about your corner of the world. Reality vs. TV.  It's really quite amazing and fits in with why I work with Community Access ...  in America.

It's that fellowship with others everywhere, discovering common attitudes, interests and goals. I was so excited to see this area of the world, a place where so few of my fellow Americans ventured.

The usual bumps happen along the way. Missing baggage - baggage delays, missing a flight and breaking my arm in two places & crossing bridges; confronting any fear of heights that might have existed.

Algeria had the most unusual Hero's emerged along the way; it was completely unexpected.

It started as soon as I landed at the airport in Algiers, waiting on luggage. An almost 3 hour delay. 🤨 A young man handed me his card, as he welcomed me to Algeria & asked where I was from. I told him I was from America and He said to call him if I needed anything.  I smiled and looked at the card, a Dentist. I said do you mean if I break a tooth?  He said no really if you need anything during your stay - call and Welcome to Algeria.

After finally getting my luggage. I was trying to run over to the other airport to catch my flight and I ran into a affable businessman who looked like an Italian from America in the 1940's. I asked if I was going the right way to the domestic airport. With genuine integrity, he came to my rescue and offer me a ride.  Getting me to accept that offer, was no small feat. Afterall, I am an independent american woman traveling alone (we're typically weary of those trying to help us, hmm). He offered to have his driver take me. He had just gotten off a plane and showed me his passport.  I was stuck and leary, but accepted.  Thank goodness he was wonderfully kind, and it was his assistance and assertive take charge attitude that ensured I got through the crowds and on the next available flight to Constantine.
New problem - that flight was the next day.

As we were leaving the hustle of stranded passengers, two women having just flown home; came over and directly asked the suave gentleman if I was okay and had everything in order, a place to stay and flights to get on to Constantine.  They were very worried about me. I hadn't even met them and probably may not have, because they spoke only Arabic and a bit of French. They were so incredibly kind and I felt comforted as they nodded their approval.

The gentleman offered me his apartment to stay at.  I insisted a hotel would be fine. He pushed back and said why, save your money? I said I am not going to sleep with you. I don't know you it's not appropriate, I can't. Could I be arrested? Afterall, unmarried couples can't stay in the same room at a hotel in this country.   He laughed and said he just wanted me to have a safe place to stay. I expect nothing - you'll have it to yourself. I will pick you up and bring you back in the morning to speak with the manager of the airline to get your tickets back on track.  (Consequently missing a flight insures all your flights are cancelled! When traveling with Air France you'll find they leave the building after the last flight lands. So no help there.)

Like a Hallmark movie filled with nice people and unexpected moments  my adventure continued. He did just what he said and I got a short tour of Algiers leaving and returning to the Airport, while being able to recharge my phone and assure my friend in Constantine that I was fine, albeit late.

Over coffee the next day.  I sheepishly thanked him for all his help, my earlier reaction seemed so rude.  He said when he was in college he had missed the last train home and had nothing left. Yet, he received help from an unexpected stranger, who gave him money to get home. He simply said he was repaying the favor. Afterall, everyone has a "green moment" when traveling. I was able to thank again after returning once on Facebook and share how well the rest of my trip went and then just as suddenly as he entered my life he just disappeared.

Tip # 1.  When flying into Algiers this is the awning to look for. It's out the front doors to your right. Walk is about 11+ minutes between the international airport and the domestic airport.  It may change soon, they were doing a lot of construction.  Expect to see officers checking cars and I mean they have you open doors trunks everything. They scan you going in - so there is a line at the doors which makes the trip a bit longer. They are efficient and effective, however, it could be surprising for the unsuspecting tourist. So arrive early coming and going and be sure to pick up your calling card as soon as you arrive.

Tip # 2 book your flights to Algiers separately.  So wherever to Algiers. Then Algiers to Constantine or other cities. For the simple fact - that things will go wrong and frequently do. Security and Luggage is a major hold up. Alot, actually per my seasoned fellow travelers to Algiers.

Consequently, if you miss the last flight out, at least there will be someone there to reissue your tickets. Especially if your flying on with Air Algiers, who is exceptional. Travel is an Independence thing; so you really want to have backup hotels in each city you land in.
Just in case your Guardian Angel is on vacation 😮 .

Tip # 3 If your traveling light like I do, 1 carry on bag and a smaller backpack; do not be bullied into checking it in at the last minute.  (Actually, just don't take Air France, truly horrible.)  The airport managers excuse for all their errors "they don't get as much training to be nice as the
international crews do"
SERIOUSLY?!?  Who needs training to be nice to customers?  Albeit, he was exceptional. I am always impressed by people who speak a multitude of languages.

Tip # 4 Things can go wrong and typically do.  Be happy anyway - take it all in stride.   Talk to everyone.  You'll find some not so savory people of course - they are everywhere. But you'll find so many more truly good wonderful and fascinating people out there.  People who practice kindness as a way of life and have lives very different from your own. You'll learn gazillions.

Tip # 5 The bank in Algeria is closed Thursday night 5 ish until Sunday Morning and it's hard if not impossible to get money exchanged outside of Algeria, before arriving.  (Another problem in a cash country, I landed on a Thursday night) and you can only take about 5000 dinar out of the country when you leave. However, there are places to exchange money in the airport - like the tobacco shop, hotels will have someone come in.  My best exchanges were the tobacco shop and black market. Which isn't as scary as it sounds; but it was a wee bit better than the banks.

My Biggest Unexpected Hero, was the Guy who sent me an invitation to investigate his corner of the world.  An honest sincere friend who looked out for my best interests at every turn. Especially, when I broke my arm. Along the way, he introduced to me to his country's rich culture, cuisine, history and helped me cross so many bridges figuratively & literally.  Most importantly he introduced me to a lot of people, including his family and friends who introduced me to more and inspired my love of and sincere interest in a beautiful country that fought for its independence and won.

He even flew back with me to Algiers on my way home.  Simply to make sure I was safe and because he insisted I needed help with my little luggage . . . Friends like that . . .

One in a million & memories that won't fade in a lifetime
A country where you'll truly feel safe & welcomed

Constantine's Ancient Treasures Algeria

Travel like the new dawn is filled with opportunities to discover ourselves our ability to adapt and our integrity in building relationships and accepting another's point of view. Visiting Algeria leads to discovering thousands of years of treasure.  This Greek roman-style Villa is a landmark that emerged in 1852.

The Phoenicians are accredited for spreading the Phoenician alphabet throughout the Mediterranean world. As major sea traders it seems they went everywhere. Lybic, Punic, Greek & Latin are the languages of finding these funeral stones.

The stones talk about numidian professionals such as the soldier, merchant and Carpenter.  Even Bacchus the Roman god of wine makes an appearance.

Constantine was once the Berber capital of the kingdom of  Numidia from 40 BC - 202 DC. As you walk through this museum there is so much to see and learn. Passing a crown of an ancient Roman goddess leads us to Faustine, a 14th century Roman Empress, involved in charities for the poor and backing education of Roman children particularly girls.

Poor Claudius a popular Roman emperor whose undoing was his taste in women.

The Cirta Museum is arranged from prehistoric times to the Muslim period.  The coins themshelves tell so many stories as far back as king Massinissa.   There's even a coin representing the god Poseidon. An astrology lab from the 9th century of Hegire.  Turning the corner you'll see a bust of eternal youthfulness of Juno.

The Great Hall features mosaics and paintings Les Fumeurs de Kiff & others of the French and Oriental schools representing daily life and sites in Constantine in the 19th and 20th centuries it even has ancient manuscripts of diverse human sciences.

Mosaics are center stage in the large Hall and the Triumph of Venus is astounding. There's a bronze statue of Victory unearthed in the Casbah. Constantine has been mentioned as far back as 320 so if you miss this your missing a 1000 of years of history and this view.

The Square of Bachir Bennacer is home to a Convention center there was an exhibit for women that day.  Loved the dresses displayed from several regions and including regions that represented the Berber Culture and Constantine traditions.  Seriously wow the traditional pastries for weddings and events.  Ingenuity with fountains made of recycled copper and outstanding craftsmanship.  The honey distributor I love listening and watching him describe his products and their uses.

The tram was built by an Italian construction company it takes you along side the main historic Mosque and through 5.5 miles of the city from the old town over the slope of the red Rhumel,  Paso university area and the modern city. There are 11 stations,  3 have Tram buses and taxi available. Also go by two viaducts and has an underpass for urban traffic it's a great way to get a feel of the city.

The Emir Abdelkader Mosque, With minarets at 107 meters high it can be seen from many different vantage points throughout the city.  the concept started as a simple mosque that would hold 10,000 worshipers. Don't know how that could ever have been simple its completion is a masterpiece and one of the largest mosque in the world that can accommodate 15,000 worshipers inside and an additional 10,000 and it's unfolding courtyard.

Conceived in 1968, inaugurated in 1994; it was crafted by Algerian, Egyptian and Moroccan architects it is astounding.

From Surah the Jinn it says: "the places of worship all only for God, so pray not unto anyone along with God." Similar to angels that Jinn are spiritual beings invisible to the naked eye.  Understanding others requires the compassion to walk in their shoes.

It takes your breath away surroundings that relax your mind and sooth your senses. This mosque includes includes the University of Islamic science famous for many accomplished scientists. All under a cupola of 64 meters.

The culture palace of Malek Heddah an Algerian author and poet is where the community gathers. In his book, The Misfortune in Danger he said: "Poet, my friend, let us make our hearts intelligent and give our hearts intelligence."  Intelligence is what radiates inward and outward here. Today there is an exhibition for women with wedding preparations, handmade Berber articles for the home. Designers who make the dresses for the wearer. Even doll clothes. I love the furniture displays.
And wow "sweet secrets"  desserts are magically scrumptious.

On many days are in the public library upstairs you'll find students hard at work studying for exams and today the balconies are filled with an art exhibit.  Anytime you're here you're want to stop in to see what's unfolding.

Art is everywhere even a pizza shop. But when you step into the Palace of Ahem Bey
. . . Once the headquarters of French army. Now with Algeria's freedom from the French it's enjoyed by all as it was intended.  The Palace of Ahmad Bay, is the home of the last ruler of the Ottoman empire. One who took a fierce stand against the French occupation forces. Some of the treasures here include a mile-long mural depicting travels throughout the middle East. The national museum will inspire even the most cynical observer. Created by the most skilled engineers of the 1800's it is filled with wonder.

This is a place where your imagination is free and filled with flights of Fancy likened to A 1001 Arabian Nights, its a collection of ancient and medieval Arabic, Greek, Berber, Jewish, Persian and Turkish folklore and literature. Whose influences linger throughout this  palace.

There are 540 doors made of cedar wood with intricate designs, secret tunnels and rooms; complemented by ancient gardens. It's inspiring and filled with hope as it takes all your cares away.
It's preserved in time for generations to come.

Artisians of Copper
When you stop by this place you might even get in a game of dominoes.  Algerian copper has been produced in Constantine since the middle ages for the home and decoration.

While it might sound loud to you if you're watching the TV show, there's something magical about being here in real time the sounds are mesmerizing. You'll be struck by awe over the craftsmanship.  The sounds drift away as you realize the traditions here have gone on and on through generations from fathers to sons. Patterns and shapes materializing trace the rich heritage of his ancient city with influences from the Roman, Ottoman, Berber and Islamic cultures.

18,000 Craftsman are registered in Constantine's craft and jobs chamber; and their stories will fascinate you and you'll be sure to leave with a treasured copper piece that Constantine is famous for.

Schools of learning
Constantine is also known as being a Mecca's knowledge the University of Constantine number three is a campus of 7 universities in one covering architecture economy medicine law technology language of biology and everywhere you find people willing to share their knowledge with you.

Women's day 2018 at the Marriott in Constantine Algeria is luxury. Often misunderstood - this is a culture where women are revered, respected and educated they have amazing jobs in architecture as electricians, lawyers and yes they drive and celebrate with gusto they even have men do the grocery shopping.

The dancing is beautiful it reminds me of the flappers in America or Ginger Rogers daring, classy & alluring style.  Not everyone likes their picture taken for a variety of reasons so always ask especially women.  After the party the Marriott has its own incredible views the Roman ruins in the distance and cityscape.

Constantine, Algeria continues to rebuild and it is one of the few debt free countries in the world. One that runs on cash not credit. You'll find good people and warm welcomes, all of its histories and mysteries are clues from the past and a reminder of a quote by author, Malek Haddad "that discord never arises from misunderstanding; but from ignorance and disrespect."

Travel cures all of that - wishing you blue skies and new discoveries until next time keep asking questions!  See the whole show here on youtube.
